GRAPHIC ZINE

Amy or Andy

I usually listen to podcasts while I work. One of the recent ones has been Amy Poehler’s Good Hang. I’ve been a fan of hers since Parks and Recreation, which is very much a comfort show for me. The same goes for Andy Samberg and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

In one episode, Amy and Andy talk about their very different ways of working. As I listened to them describe their processes, something clicked. It articulated a tension I’ve felt for a long time but hadn’t been able to name.

The Rant

Midway through the episode, I paused my work and sent a long rant to my best friend. It was about first ideas, iteration, guilt, intuition, and how different creative approaches can coexist without one being “better” than the other. That message became the foundation of this zine.

Experimentation

The zine uses graphic cut-and-paste and multiple visual styles layered together. It’s deliberately messy and slightly chaotic, and very much outside my usual comfort zone. Zines, for me, are the safest place to experiment — with tone, structure, pacing, and visuals that don’t need to resolve neatly.

I love how this one turned out. It feels honest, personal, and reflective of how I think about making work now. I’m glad I let myself make it.
